My mother-in-law "loves" me to such an extent that her care for me and my husband manifests itself in a very specific way. She sends us crops from the dacha according to the principle: "God, what is not good for us is good for you". Every time I receive another box or bag of vegetables, I already know in advance what will be inside.
But, as they say, you don't look for good, so I adapted. But I learned how to salt tomatoes in slices. A very successful recipe, tomatoes are juicy, flavorful, lightly salted, and most importantly - perfectly suited to any table.
One day my husband's parents came to visit. Of course, I did my best: I set a beautiful table, cooked a few dishes to show them that their son had a caring and economical wife. Among the hors d'oeuvres, I put those tomatoes...
My mother-in-law eats them, praises them, but wonders why they are slices. She and her favorite daughter-in-law roll them whole. So I told her that these are tomatoes from their cottage, only I cut out the rot. My mother-in-law even opened her mouth in surprise. She probably didn't realize that her son eats the same things I do.
