For as long as I can remember, I've been considered strange. It all started with an unusual occurrence. I was almost six years old at the time, and a strange, glowing man came to me at night.
- Hi," he said, "do you want to fly?
- I want to," I replied, "How?
- You'll see," said the little man. With these words he... lifted me into the air, and we flew to the stars.
I enjoyed flying very much, especially flying through the rings of Saturn. But when I told my family about it in the morning, no one believed me... of course.
- You're a dreamer," Mom said with a smile.
- But it's true! - I exclaimed. But they didn't believe me, and they still didn't believe me. The alien (and it was him) didn't disappear either, by the way. I even think that when I got older, he came more often. And one day I said to him:
- Why don't you erase the memory of your visits, you can do that, can't you? No," I added, "you're my friend, but no one believes you exist, and the stories I've heard about you make me sound like a fantasist at best, and at worst, weird, crazy, or worse.
- Do you have any idea," the alien asked me, "why I came to you in the first place? Why did I choose you?
- No," I wondered, "why?
- Because you are the Chosen One," he answered. - Of all the people in your town, you're the only one who can talk to people like me. I can't erase your memory, because then you won't be able to help me.
- Help who? - I asked - With what?
- You'll find out later," said the alien sternly, "I've told you enough already.
I did not have to wait long - in less than a month a terrible epidemic began in our city. The epidemic affected everyone, from very young children to old people. Some people did not fall ill at all, a little more were those who had a mild form of the disease. The majority had the most severe form, and the worst part was that the medicine was nowhere to be found either. When they announced to us that all schools in the city would be quarantined until they found a vaccine or a cure, I suddenly raised my hand and said:
- I know what I have to do.
- Our mad Myra," came a caustic whisper.
- In a situation like ours," I said loudly, "you might as well listen to the crazy one.
So I told them the recipe for the vaccine and the cure. Strangely enough, they believed me, and sent the scientists a letter with the recipes. Fortunately, even though they were told that they had gotten the recipes from a schoolgirl, the scientists believed me. They were able to prepare a cure and a vaccine, and all the people of our town were saved. I became famous for the whole town, but for me it was more important that we defeated the disease, and also, I was glad that no one called me names anymore. Now I was just Myra.
