For as long as she could remember, Mia had always drawn the attention of those around her.
- What a sweet little girl!
- Beautiful!
- A doll!
- Little princess! - came from every direction. She was indeed a beauty: straight dark hair, a slightly upturned nose, and big, gray-green eyes. But the closest to the truth was a strange grandmother who said that Mia was about four years old:
- What an extraordinary child, just like a little elf!
Mia never saw her grandmother again, but the older she got, the more often she was compared to an elf. Not only that, but after thirteen years of age, that comparison made Mia start to wonder:
- Maybe I'm not really from around here.
And there was a reason for that: while Mia had a perfect ear and, in general, not bad at drawing, she had no more than a C in technical disciplines, and was completely unable to run a household. And her parents didn't like it very much:
- How are you going to live, you are not adapted to life at all - they often said.
Mia knew her parents were right, but she couldn't help it. She didn't know yet that at fifteen she would have a life-changing encounter.
Mia and her family lived near the local cultural center. She often went there as a child, and the school was not far away. In general, Mia did not remember how she found herself near the house of culture that day, but she saw an announcement: "ELPHES AND GOBLINS GROUP SEARCHING FOR TALENTS".
The ad had a few punk-looking girls and guys a few years older than Mia. She read the ad and wondered:
- What kind of group is Elves and Goblins? I should go see it," Mia finally decided, "I bet those elves and goblins are pretty good. Besides, I could always go home if I didn't like it.
Mia's mom wouldn't forbid her from going there, but she said:
- You can go, but you have to do all your homework first.
Mia tried really hard, and she managed to get things done pretty quickly. But she was still afraid that the Elves and Goblins wouldn't wait for her. When Mia entered the hall where the meeting of the supposed participants was to be held, she almost fell down: the participants looked like her, like two drops of water!
Suddenly, Mia was noticed by some guy, and approached her.
- Hey, what's your name?
- Mia - she replied.
- And I'm Nick. Come on, I'll introduce you to the others! Do you know how to play anything?
- On the ukulele.
Indeed, Mia had always wanted to master this instrument, and for her twelfth birthday her parents gave her a ukulele.
- So, you can master a regular guitar too! - Nick smiled, and turning to the others, said, "This is Mia.
After talking to the members of the group, Mia realized that they were all elves who had somehow got to Earth. At home, of course, she didn't tell anyone about it. But after meeting with the group of "Elves and Goblins", Mia's affairs went well, and her parents finally accepted her hobbies. And most importantly, she made friends. Now Mia was where she belonged.
