That year was difficult for the Kuzmins' family. The father of the girls, sisters Lena and Tanya, was fired from his job, so for several months he did not work at all. Then he found a new one, but on New Year's Eve the Kuzmins didn't even have money for a Christmas tree. Moreover, the girls were afraid to ask for presents, because they didn't even know if their parents would be able to give them anything.
It was December thirtieth. The parents, who wanted to brighten up their daughters' holidays somehow, went to the store.
- Uh-huh," said eleven-year-old Lena, "Daddy is gloomier than a cloud.
- Yeah, and mom's no better," Tanya nodded.
- What do we do?
For a while the sisters just sat silently thinking. And suddenly Tanya said:
- I got it! We'll give our parents a New Year's Eve party!
- How? - Lena frowned - We don't even have a Christmas tree!
Tanya looked around and cheerfully continued:
- But we have a palm tree! Let's dress it up!
I must say, although Tanya was three years younger, she was the leader of the couple.
That said, it was done. The sisters took out the toys, and in fifteen minutes the palm tree was dressed up.
I don't think I need to tell you how surprised my parents were when they saw the lights in their window. And when they realized what it was and saw what Lena and Tanya had put up instead of a Christmas tree, they were delighted.
