Selfies, millions of them, have been shared all around the internet. They have been taken from a myriad of different places, from bathrooms to bedrooms, top of skyscrapers to top of mountains, even on planes and cars, and just about anywhere. If you want your selfies to stand out from the crowd, try to take them on these landmarks:
1. BIG BEN - LONDON, UK
The Big Ben is one of the most well-known landmarks in UK. It is the perfect backdrop for a celebratory selfie after successfully filing for a UK Tourist Visa. It is something that your friends will probably be envious of. Aside from the Big Ben, you may also be amazed by the beauty of the Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, and even the red phone booths that you may find along the roads of London.
2. TAJ MAHAL - AGRA, INDIA
This grandiose mausoleum in India was built with pure love in the heart of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It shows the beauty of Islamic architecture and design. If you have the proper smartphone camera lens attachments, try to get a selfie with a wide angle lens. You will not only fall in love with this landmark’s story, but you will also love how good your selfie will look with the Taj Mahal as the backdrop.
3. STATUE OF LIBERTY - NEW YORK, USA
This is probably one of the most well known landmarks not just in the USA, but also in the rest of the world. It is a symbol of freedom and friendship. Give your selfies the freedom they deserve from the usual places. Use the statue as a backdrop, or better yet, take your selfie while you are on the statue itself! Just make sure your selfie stick is sturdy, or the wind may blow it down.
4. EIFFEL TOWER - PARIS, FRANCE
This tower is also well known worldwide, and the city below it is known for how romantic it is. Again, you may use the tower as the backdrop for your selfies, or you may take your selfie while you are on it. Be warned though, taking photos of the tower during the night time may be prohibited, so you better ask for permission first. You may also like to visit the Louvre museum, too. It is a romantic and a beautiful place as well.
5. LEANING TOWER - PISA, ITALY
This lovely architecture is literally leaning to one side, but it is still possible to climb the tower and take selfies inside it. The amount of wear and tear this building received adds to its beauty. You can get a good picture of its surroundings when you are on top. And who can miss shooting a “look, I am supporting the tower” shot outside the tower? However you shoot it, you will love the tower and your photos. But be reminded that a lot of people are also walking around it, which can sometimes destroy your photo.
6. SPHINX - GIZA, EGYPT
While Egypt has a lot of beautiful and well known landmarks, the Sphinx is one of the best ones. It is a statue of a mythical creature with a lion’s body and a human head. It is a symbol of power, and taking a selfie with the Sphinx as a backdrop looks equally powerful, too. You may be inclined towards a “kissing the head” or “patting the head” type of shots. You may also go and take selfies among the pyramids, which provide perfect backdrops for selfies.
7. SYDNEY HARBOUR - SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
This harbour really looks so romantic. It is a place where you and your loved one can relax, dine, watch lots of people go by, watch plays and orchestras, and of course, take romantic selfies. Sydney Opera House anyone?
8. SAINT BASIL’S CATHEDRAL - MOSCOW, RUSSIA
If you love colors and shapes, then you will love this cathedral. People visiting or living in Russia love to take pictures of Saint Basil’s Cathedral due to its beauty and mystery. Do you know that the architect of this magnificent structure is still unknown to this day? What’s more mysterious is how he designed this cathedral, and why he used bonfire shapes, even though it is not of Russian architecture. Whatever it is, you will love taking selfies with it.
9. MERLION - SINGAPORE
Imagine the combination of a fish and a lion - and you’ll get the merlion. This symbol and statue is synonymous with Singapore. What’s really good is that you’ll find several of these statues scattered in Singapore - nearby the Fullerton Hotel, in Sentosa, and other places. Get your selfies with the Merlion behind your back, or stretch your selfie stick and take a selfie from up above, you will surely love it.
10. PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS - KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
Built like a couple holding each other’s hands, Petronas Twin Towers inspire partners to take pictures with these buildings behind them. Or if you can get a permission, you can take your selfies while inside it and get a view of the surrounding areas. You will not only find it as a great backdrop, but also a great shopping center with restaurants where you can dine and relax.
